Two Teens Dead after Unlicensed Driver Crashes Car
Two teenagers were killed and three injured after a car driven by a 17 year-old unlicensed driver crashed in Taichung City in the early hours of the morning, today, August 9.
Taichung City Fire Department received a report at 1:41am that a car had left the road and turned over on Xitun Road, Section 3, in Xitun District. Four ambulances and 8 personnel were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
One of the passengers had been thrown out of the vehicle and had lost vital signs. Another in the rear passenger seat also had no trace of breathing or heartbeat. The two patients, both 15 years-old were later declared dead at the hospital.
Three other people in the vehicle, including the 17 year-old driver, named Hu, and two passengers, Zheng, 16, and Lin, 15, were taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Hu later told police that he had borrowed the car and taken his friends to the Donghai business district for a late night snack. On the way home, he lost control of the vehicle on a downhill section of the road. After hitting the central traffic divider, the car ricocheted into a power pole on the side of the road, before turning over among the trees.
According to Apple Daily, the two teenagers who died were not wearing seat belts at the time. Apple also alleges that Hu took his mother’s car without permission while his mother was sleeping.
