Truck driver rescued from cabin suspended in midair after crash

Firefighters spent more than one hour in a difficult rescue operation after a truck driver was trapped in his vehicle suspended in midair in Changhua County this morning, November 8.
According to reports, the 42-year-old driver, named Hsie, was driving a semi-trailer loaded with livestock feed when he crashed into a guardrail on a ramp at the Changua Freeway Interchange at 6:38 am.
The collision seriously damaged the front section of the truck and left the cabin hanging precariously around 15 meters above ground. Parts of the truck fell onto the road below, but the cabin remained attached to the trailer with the injured driver inside.

The Changhua County Fire Department closed the freeway section below the accident, and called in a private crane operator to assist in the rescue.
After securing the truck cabin with the crane, firefighters approached the wreck from below using a ladder truck. The driver was finally extracted from the vehicle at 8:02 am.
Mr Hsie remained conscious throughout the ordeal, but suffered from a neck contusion and a fractured right foot and was rushed to Changhua Christian Hospital for emergency treatment.
Six fire trucks, three ambulances, and 21 personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
