Truck crash blocks freeway in both directions: compact car narrowly avoids destruction
A truck accident on National Highway One in Tainan City blocked traffic in both directions this afternoon, and dashcam footage showed one driver narrowly escape being hit by a flying axle and wheel set.
At around 2:00 pm the driver of a semitrailer carrying scrap metal lost control of his vehicle due to a left front tire blowout at the 331 kilometer mark. The truck veered into the central traffic divider, leaving the trailer tipped over, and the cab in oncoming traffic lanes.
A set of dual wheels on an axle flew off the truck and bounced into the path of vehicles in the southbound lanes. The driver of a compact hatchback was seen braking and veering right to narrowly avoid her small car being hit by the flying wheels.
Fortunately, the driver of the semi-trailer was only slightly injured, and there were no other casualties.
Traffic was backed up in both north and southbound lanes until the wreckage was finally cleaned up at around 4:00 pm.
