Teen survives fall from 13th floor after landing on car
A high school student leapt from the roof of a 13 storey building in Yonghe District, New Taipei City yesterday evening, and survived after landing on a car stopped at a red light.
At around 6:00pm, the 17-year-old male named Lu came home, dropped off his schoolbag, then climbed the stairs to the roof of the Renai Road residence, and jumped, according to reports in local media agencies.
Lu hit branches of a tree before landing on the roof of an SUV, causing the roof to cave in and slightly injuring the driver, who suffered glass cuts to his hand from the shattered windscreen.
Paramedics found that Lu had vital signs and rushed him to hospital, where he regained consciousness and was able to speak to the doctor. Lu underwent surgery for an open fracture of his arm, and remains under observation with multiple fractures and a chest injury.
Lu’s family said that their son had a history of depression, for which he had received treatment in the past, and suspect that he had been suffering stress due to academic pressure.
