One of Taipei Zoo’s oldest koalas, Patrick, passed away yesterday October 10 after weakening due to old age. The 19 year old koala was born a Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, on Australia’s Gold Coast, and arrived at the zoo in 1999. A seven year-old Giraffe named Xiaojiu died in Taipei after an unsuccessful attempt to transport it to another zoo. Taipei Zoo staff were preparing to transport the animal to a zoo at Leofoo Theme Park as part of a breeding program when it sat down at an odd angle in the crate, causing veterinarians to declare it unfit for transportation.
