Rainy season front expected to bring heavy rain this weekend

Weather forecasters are predicting a rainy weekend with a typical rainy season front expected to approach northern Taiwan, Thursday, and slowly move southward until it reaches the South China Sea, Tuesday.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, as the weak front currently bringing cloudy weather today moves away, Tuesday and Wednesday will see temperatures rise to maximums of 31°C in northern and central parts of Taiwan, and 31°C to 33°C in the south with brief isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms in some areas.

As a stationary front approaches Thursday, the maximum temperature is expected to drop slightly to 30°C before cooling to a maximum of 26°C Friday, and 18-20°C on the weekend.

Under the direct influence of the front, the probability of showers and thunderstorms will increase from Friday to Monday with the possibility of ‘severe weather’ in the from of lightning strikes, strong winds, and instantaneous heavy rainfall. Next Tuesday and Wednesday weather will return to stable, warmer conditions as the front hovers over the Bashi Channel.
