Police Fire 8 Shots in Arrest of Drugs and Guns Trafficker
A suspect in Changhua County abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot after officers attempted to make an arrest. Police fired 8 shots as they chased the man through residential properties and fields, before the suspect finally surrendered. A military assault rifle was seized in the investigation.
Mr Hong, 53, used a mobile food truck as a front for trading in drugs and firearms, police told media at a press conference in Taichung this morning. Hong traveled around Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou counties, using the mobile food business as a cover for trafficking in narcotics and firearms, police said. After an investigation that police said lasted “many days,” officers finally swooped on the suspect on January 4.
When police made their move, Hong spotted the officers in his rear view mirror and fled on foot, jumping over a wall, and leading police on a 100 meter chase. Police wore body armor as they suspected Hong was armed.
Police seized an M4A1 military assault rifle, two magazines, 45 bullets, a silencer, 2 packets of heroin, 1 packet of amphetamine, and 9 mobile phones during the investigation.
Hong was handed over to the District Prosecutor’s Office to face charges relating to firearms and drug offences.
