Philippines Bracing for Typhoon
Tropical typhoon Sarika, named “Karen” in the Philippines is about to make landfall on the main island of Luzon in the vicinity of Aurora Province. According to Philippines Atmospheric, Geological, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the typhoon is expected to make landfall between midnight and 2:00am Sunday, October 16.
Tropical typhoon Sarika is packing sustained winds of 130 kph, with maximum wind gusts up to 180kph.
The tropical storm has intensified into a category 3 typhoon according to the Japan Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).
At the time of writing, residents of the capital Manila are starting to feel the effects of the typhoon.
People have been evacuated from the districts of Digumased, Dinapigue, and Isabela. Guests of resorts near Sabang beach have also been evacuated.

PAGASA warned of possible storm surges, landslides and flash floods in areas under Signal Numbers 3 and 2.
