33 injured after tour bus overturns on freeway
More than 30 people were injured after a tour bus lost control and flipped onto its side on National Freeway 3 in Changhua County this afternoon, March 9.
The accident occurred at 4:43pm in the southbound lanes at the 192 kilometer mark near the Hemei Interchange in rainy conditions after the bus collided with a car.
United Daily News reports that there were 32 people on the bus at the time of the accident. The group were returning to Kaohsiung City after attending a religious ceremony in Miaoli County.
The Changhua County Fire Department dispatched 19 fire appliances and ambulances, and 43 personnel to the scene of the accident.
According to a United Daily News report, 5 people are listed as seriously injured and had lost consciousness at the scene of the accident. Another 28 people are described as slightly injured, and all have been sent to hospital.
Apple Daily reported that the accident is suspected to have occurred after the driver of a black sedan traveling at around 100 kilometers per hour lost control in wet conditions and slammed into the bus after bouncing off the guardrail.
