Minor collision turns to tragedy after truck plows into crashed vehicles
Two drivers who got out of their vehicles after a collision on Highway 1 died, and a passenger was injured, after a semi-trailer crashed into them in Changhua County early this morning, April 24.
The Changhua County Fire Department received reports that vehicles were on fire after a collision at the 213-kilometer mark in the northbound lanes on National Highway 1 in Xihu Township at around 3:00 am. Nine vehicles and 19 personnel were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
Three people were found seriously injured and rushed to hospital. A 53-year-old man, named Yang, and a 33-year-old man, named Xue, were declared dead after arrival at the hospital. A man named Lu who was a passenger in one of the vehicles is being treated for a head injury.
According to the preliminary investigation, Yang and Xue were the drivers of two cars who stopped on the shoulder of the road after a collision. Yang and Xue were outside their vehicles inspecting the damage when a semi-trailer plowed into the accident scene. The impact caused the vehicles to ignite and all three vehicles were destroyed by the ensuing fire.
