Ministry of Defense confirms multiple incursions of Taiwan airspace by PLA aircraft
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) confirmed this afternoon that PLA aircraft flew multiple sorties into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone this morning.
The MOD press release said that Chinese PLA aircraft included SU-30 and J-10 fighters as well as multiple other types of aircraft.
The MOD said that the air force closely monitored the flights and responded effectively to the incursions.
The MOD also denied that PLA forces had encircled the Dongsha (Pratas) Islands, saying that it was falsely reported in the media.
Reports had stated that PLA amphibious forces were conducting exercises in the South China Sea, and had at one point surrounded the Dongsha Islands, leading to a tense situation until noon.
The MOD press release stated that this was false information.
The MOD sternly condemned the CCP’s unilateral destruction of regional peace and stability, the press release said.
Press reports say that the air force issued broadcasts warning the PLA aircraft to leave the ADIZ 24 times.
At the time of the incursions, Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) was testing air defense missiles. The missiles are being tested in the early morning today and tomorrow.
