Gravel truck driver narrowly avoids plowing into car, rolling over on freeway
The driver of a gravel truck managed to avoid colliding with a car on National Highway 1 yesterday, but almost tipped his truck over in the process.
A dashcam video uploaded to the PTT Bulletin Board quickly went viral today, drawing praise for the driver of the gravel truck, and condemnation for the driver of a black Volvo who cut across from the fast lane to reach a freeway exit ramp in Changhua County at 8:00 am, Tuesday.
The gravel truck driver had no time to brake, and was forced to quickly veer left to avoid colliding with the car.
The gravel truck’s maneuver caused its trailer to sway precariously, with first the right-side wheels going into the air, and then the left wheels, as the driver corrected the lumbering vehicle. The dashcam video showed the driver avoiding a rollover, and gradually bring the vehicle under control over a period of around 5 seconds.
After viewing the video, a National Highway Police Bureau officer said that the driver of the black Volvo will be investigated on suspicion of violating Articles 33 and 43 of the Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations.
The NHPB officer urged drivers to change to the outermost lane in advance before exiting the expressway. If you miss the interchange, please go to the next interchange to turn around.
