Fisheries Chairman shot dead in ambush outside his home in Tainan City
The chairman of the Tainan City Fisherman’s Association was declared dead in hospital after being shot 11 times as he left his home early this morning, Monday, July 8.
According to reports, 53-year-old Lin Shijie (林士傑), a well-known and influential member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Tainan City, walked out of his front door at around 5:40 am to go hiking. As Lin walked towards a waiting car, a man dressed in jeans and a black hoodie quickly approached, pointed two pistols at Lin, and fired 11 shots at close range. Lin was hit by multiple shots in the head, neck, and chest.
Lin was rushed to Yongkang Chimei Hospital, but was declared dead around 30 minutes after arrival.
Police retrieved 11 bullet shells at the scene of the crime. A car used by the suspect has been identified and police are currently tracing the shooter and possible accomplices.
Lin was held in detention earlier this year over allegations of bribery in the election of the speaker and deputy speaker of the Tainan City Council. He is also the father of Tainan City DPP Councilor Lin Yiting.

This is very concerning and tragic. Regardless of what he may have been involved in, no one deserves to die like that. Prayers to his family.
