Evergreen Shipping’s new world record megamax arrives at Port of Taipei
Evergreen Shipping’s new 24,000 TEU container ship EVER ACE arrived at the Port of Taipei for the first time today, August 8, breaking a record for the largest ship by tonnage to dock at the port.
Evergreen took delivery of the world’s largest megamax container ship earlier this month from Samsung Heavy Industries. At 23,992 TEU, EVER ACE surpasses the previous world record holder, owned by HMM, by 38 TEU. EVER ACE is the first of a series of 10 that will be delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries over the next two years.
At 400 meters in length and 61.5 meters wide, EVER ACE’s deck is the size of four football fields. The ship has a deadweight of 225,000 tons, and can sail at a speed of 22.6 knots.
Arriving at around 4:00 pm, the ship was guided into port with the assistance of two pilots and four tugboats before docking at Pier 6.
EVER ACE is employed on Evergreen’s Far East to Europe route visiting ports including Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Taipei, Yantian, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, and Hamburg.
