Drunk driver investigated for gun crimes after bullets found in vehicle

Police in Kaohsiung City are investigating a man on suspicion of firearms and weapons crimes after finding 28 bullets in his motor scooter’s under seat compartment following his arrest for drunk driving.

Police on a routine patrol in Sinsing District pulled over a 64-year-old man named Hsu after spotting him crossing the stop line at a red light at the intersection of Zili 1st Road and Qixian 1st Road at around 9:20 am yesterday, January 19.

Noticing that Hsu smelled of alcohol, the police officers conducted a roadside breath test, and found Hsu to be over the legal limit of 0.25mg/l.

Police became suspicious after Hsu grew agitated and begged them to let him call a friend to help him get the motorcycle home before going into the police station to be processed.

Police suggested that if Hsu had valuables inside the vehicle, he could simply take them with him to the police station. When Hsu seemed reluctant to do so, police asked him to open the under-seat compartment. Inside, police found a bag containing a case. Inside the case were 28 bullets, some suspected gun parts, and a bottle of gun oil.

Hsu claimed to have found the bullets when cleaning up his house, and was on his way to dispose of them when he was pulled over by the police.

Hsu was charged for drunk driving and possession of illegal ammunition, and police a continuing the investigation to find the source of the bullets.
