China Airlines and Taiwan Tourism Bureau team up to promote Taiwan at San Francisco Marathon

The San Francisco Marathon, one of the most challenging marathon events in the United States, is set to take place on July 26 and 27, 2025, with registration now open. This prestigious race is expected to attract thousands of runners from around the world, and this year, China Airlines (華航) and the Taiwan Tourism Bureau (台灣觀光署) have announced a joint sponsorship to promote Taiwan as a top sports tourism destination.

China Airlines’ San Francisco branch confirmed that the airline will serve as the official international airline sponsor, while Taiwan has been designated as the event’s exclusive international travel destination. This marks the second consecutive year that China Airlines has sponsored the San Francisco Marathon. Through this partnership with the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, the airline aims to introduce Taiwan’s rich sports tourism opportunities to international runners and encourage participation in the 2025 China Airlines Starlight Marathon and the 2026 New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon.

The San Francisco Marathon, now in its 48th edition, is the largest community running event in Northern California and is renowned as one of the most scenic city marathons in the United States. The race features five distance categories, including a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, and an ultramarathon. The full marathon course is a Boston Marathon qualifying race, adding to its prestige among competitive runners.

This year’s event is expected to attract more than 30,000 participants from across the globe. Runners will traverse iconic San Francisco landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Golden Gate Park. China Airlines hopes that by participating in this major event alongside the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, it can further boost Taiwan’s visibility as a prime travel destination and inspire more international runners to explore the country’s vibrant sports tourism scene.
