6 injured after car crashes into sidewalk arcade in New Taipei City

six people were taken to hospital, fortunately none with life-threatening injuries, after a car veered onto the sidewalk after being hit by a taxi making an illegal left turn in Luzhou District, New Taipei City yesterday, July 3.

According to the police report and video footage of the incident, the taxi driven by a 47-year-old man, named Zhang, made an illegal left turn on Sanmin Road and hit the front fender of a white SUV at around 10:30 pm. The driver of the SUV then lost control of the vehicle and careered into the sidewalk arcade of a busy 7-11 convenience store.

Three pedestrians and the rider of a motor scooter parked outside the store were hit by the SUV and injured. The driver of the SUV suffered an injured hand, and the taxi driver complained of chest pain. All six people were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A total of ten motor scooters parked outside the convenience store were also damaged in the crash.

According to the preliminary police investigation, neither of the two drivers involved in the crash were affected by alcohol.
