1 dead, 3 injured after residential gas explosion in New Taipei City
One woman died, and three other people were injured after a gas explosion in a New Taipei City apartment early this morning, February 14.
Residents in the vicinity of Xinming Street in Xindian District were awoken by a loud explosion at 4:14 am. Firefighters responded to reports of the explosion and fire in a fourth-floor apartment of a 5 storey building. The fire was brought under control and extinguished at 4:29 pm.
A 46-year-old woman, named Zhou was found in the bathroom of the apartment where the explosion occurred. Zhou had suffered serious burns and was without vital signs. Three other people in neighboring apartments were also injured.
The injured were rushed to Cardinal Tien Hospital where Zhou was declared dead a short time after arrival. A 70-year-old female, a 29-year-old female, and a 37-year-old male were treated for abrasions and other minor injuries.
Firefighters found three gas cylinders on the rear balcony of the apartment, one of which was on fire. The exact cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
