1 dead, 1 seriously injured after speeding car slams into military truck
One man died and another was seriously injured after a civilian car crashed into the back of an army truck on combat readiness exercises in Taichung City this morning, February 24.
Taichung City Fire Bureau received a report of a serious traffic accident on Huanhe Road in Dali District at 4:52 am. Two ambulances and two fire trucks were dispatched to the scene of the crash.
Firefighters found two men who had been thrown out of a white Ford sedan after slamming into the back of a military truck at high speed. A 24-year-old man, named Huang, was obviously dead and was not sent to the hospital. Another man, named Hsu, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
No military personnel were injured in the accident.
According to the police investigation so far, blood tests taken on the injured man showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.79 mg/l, exceeding the legal driving limit of 0.15 mg/l. The driver of the army truck was not affected by alcohol. A blood alcohol test on the deceased is pending, and it is not yet known which of the two men was driving at the time of the accident.
