Zoo reassures the public after child’s shoes spotted in Tiger pen
A Hsinchu Zoo spokesperson reassured the public that no children had been eaten this weekend, after someone uploaded a picture of a pair of children’s shoes floating in a pond inside the tiger enclosure, December 11.
A man named Peng uploaded the picture to a Hsinchu news group on Facebook yesterday, posing the question “Where’s the kid? I only see shoes next to the tiger.” A laughing emoticon showed the question was asked in jest.
Hsinchu Zoo staff responded to media inquiries to confirm that a pair of shoes had indeed fallen into the tiger pen, but that no children had been harmed in the incident.
“No one was eaten,” the spokesperson said.
“Children are curious when watching the animals, and it is inevitable that sometimes objects will fall into the enclosure, including the occasional shoe.”
“If an item falls into the animal’s habitat, you can tell the staff, and leave your phone number. Zoo staff will recover the items when the animals are at rest.”
In February this year, a Monkey was seen playing with an iPhone that somebody had accidentally dropped into the Malaysian crab-eating macaque enclosure.
