Police today found the remains of a 30 year-old missing woman after a 37 year-old man confessed yesterday, that he had killed her, cut up her body, and disposed of the remains on Yangming Mountain (Yangmingshan: 陽明山) earlier this month.

According to media reports today, June 18, an archery instructor named Chen had met a woman named Gao just over one month ago while he was giving lessons at his studio in the Huashan arts and culture park.

Family members of Ms Gao reported her missing after being unable to make contact with her since May 31. On June 1, Ms Gao who lived in Hsientien District met Chen at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City.

Police investigators discovered that Chen was the last person to have had contact with Ms Gao, and considered him a suspect in her disappearance.

When police questioned Chen, he denied being the last person to have contact with Gao, and told police that Gao had left with someone else.

Chen broke down during a second interrogation, yesterday, and confessed to police that after drinking together, Chen had made a sexual advance on Ms Gao, but was rejected. Chen became enraged, and strangled Gao to death. Chen then cut her body into seven pieces with a cleaver and hid the remains at his studio – a bamboo hut in the culture park, for two days, before going to Yangmingshan and disposing of the body parts in long grass.

Police took Chen to the area to show them where he had disposed of the remains this morning.

By mid afternoon it was reported that 7 plastic bags containing the remains of the missing woman had been found. The site where the remains were found is a geothermal area with the strong smell of sulfur. Police believe the killer may have chosen the location to hide the smell of the decomposing body parts.
