Wanted woman chased by police, crashes into pond

A woman wanted for fraud attempted to evade a police check, leading to police shooting at the tires of her vehicle, and a chase that ended in a pond in Banqiao District, yesterday, February 21.

At around 4:30 pm, police identified a minivan stopped at an intersection on Yumin Road in Tucheng District, driven by a 27-year-old woman named Zhang, who is wanted on charges of fraud. When police approached the vehicle and asked the woman to show her ID, Zhang refused, and drove at the police officers. One officer fired four shots at the left front tire of Zhang’s vehicle.

Zhang sped away in the direction of Banqiao District with police chasing. Zhang drove dangerously at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic on wet roads. On Zhongyang Road, Zhang collided with a motor scooter, leaving a 52-year-old woman, named Huang, slightly injured.

Zhang finally lost control of her vehicle as she turned at an intersection Sichuan Road. The vehicle skidded sideways and crashed through a fence before landing in a pond.

Zhang then abandoned the vehicle and was arrested as she stepped out of the water.
