Vietnamese woman’s body found in Taoyuan City: Man arrested on suspicion of murder, sexual assault
Police have arrested a 50-year-old Taiwanese man suspected of having killed a Vietnamese woman whose body was found in Taoyuan City, July 31.
Police began a homicide investigation after the body of a female was found by a fisherman among trees near the shoreline in Xinwu District, Taoyuan City, Saturday.
A severe head wound and the blood-splattered site where the body was found pointed to an obvious case of homicide. The victim’s disheveled clothing and unbuttoned pants also suggested the victim may have been sexually assaulted.
No documents were found on the body, but police used forensic analysis to identify the victim as a 29-year-old absconded female Vietnamese migrant worker named Wu.
According to the police investigation, Wu had been in Taiwan for around three years, but had left her designated employment at a factory in New Taipei City in April last year. Wu had since been illegally employed at another factory.
It was at the second factory that Wu met a 50-year-old Taiwanese co-worker named Wang.
Wang was arrested yesterday, August 2 on suspicion of killing Ms Wu.
Wang confessed to police that he had bludgeoned Wu to death with a rock. Wu claims that he had become enraged after Wu belittled him.
Mr Wang, who is divorced, said that he had struck up a friendship with Ms Wu. On July 23 the two met to visit Yongan Fishing Port in Xinwu District. While they were chatting Wu repeatedly ridiculed Wang and looked down on him, Wang told police.
Wang said that he became enraged, picked up a rock, and slammed Wu’s head with it.
Wang did not explain why the victim’s trouser buttons were undone. Police investigators suspect that the victim may have been sexually assaulted and prosecutor’s will examine the body and perform an autopsy on August 5.
