Very Drunk Driver Kills One, then Flees to the Scene of the Next Accident
A very drunk driver in Taichung City knocked down two road construction workers, killing one, then fled the scene of the accident and knocked over a motorcyclist, before finally crashing into another car one kilometer away from the scene of the original accident.
At around 5:00pm today, Monday, December 11, the 54 year-old driver of a black Mercedes Benz E200 plowed into a work site on Jinde Road. Two workers were injured in the accident, and one was trapped under the car.
After getting out of the car and surveying the damage, the driver, named Jiang, panicked, got back into the driver’s seat, and put his pedal to the metal. The already injured worker, Mr Chen, suffered further injury as he was run over for the second time.
One kilometer away from the scene of the first accident, Jiang collided with a 39 year-old female scooter rider, then hit a Mitsubishi sedan. The scooter rider suffered light injuries consisting of facial bruises.
However, Mr Chen, who had been run over twice, lost vital signs at the scene, and was resuscitated at the hospital, only to succumb to his injuries shortly after 8:00pm, due to severe head injuries and a fractured pelvis.
After finally coming to a stop, Jiang was arrested by police and subjected to a roadside alcohol breath test which showed Jiang had been driving with an blood alcohol level of BrAC 1.15mg/l (0.23% BAC).
