Two migrant workers killed in Yilan County traffic accident

Two Indonesian migrant workers died after a truck hit their electric scooter at high speed while the men were stopped at a red light in Yilan County this morning, July 12.

Yilan County Fire Department received reports about the traffic accident on Meifu Road, in Zhuangwei Township at around 11:20 am.

The rider of the electric scooter, a 26-year-old man named Daimas Prasetiyo, was without signs of life at the scene of the accident, and was declared dead at the hospital at around noon.

The 24-year-old passenger, named Made Febri Anggara, was unconscious and in a critical condition on arrival at the hospital and was declared dead at around 4:00 pm.

Both men had been thrown more than 40 meters from the point of impact.

Traffic monitor footage showed a small blue truck hitting the men at high speed without signs of braking.

The driver of the truck, Mr Liao, 46, claimed that his throttle was stuck at the time of the accident, and that he was unable to brake. Mr Liao was breath-tested and was found to not have been affected by alcohol.

Liao was sent to the District Prosecutor to face charges of negligent death.

The deceased migrant workers were employed at a factory in the Longde Industrial area of Su’ao Township, according to ET Today.
