Three Highway Police Killed in the Line of Duty
Three people, including two highway police officers, were killed when a truck slammed into them on National Highway 1 this morning in Tainan.
At around 5:30am, police officers pulled over a truck found to be in violation of traffic regulations. While the officers were standing behind the truck, issuing a ticket, another truck slammed into the parked patrol car behind them, crushing the three men between the truck and the patrol car. All three died at the scene of the accident.
The deceased officers were Guo Zhenxiong (郭振雄), 50, and Ye Jiahao (葉家豪), 38, of the 4th brigade of the National Highway Police Bureau. Guo had 30 years experience as a police officer, and Ye 14 years.
The driver of the second truck, named Lu, was given an alcohol breath test, which came up negative.
Statistics show that National Highway Police officers have a death rate of 0.53% killed on duty, which is the highest among all police agencies, according to a report in United Daily News.
