Train driver dies after being hit by freight train while crossing the tracks

A train driver about to start his shift died after he was hit and run over by a freight train while he was crossing the tracks at Yilan Station yesterday, Wednesday evening, July 27.

Liberty Times reported that the 51-year-old freight train driver, named Wu was crossing the tracks from Platform 2 to reach his train No.7,557 when he was hit by freight train No.7,556 as it entered the station at 8:33 pm.

Firefighters said that Wu was obviously dead by the time they reached him, and he was not sent to the hospital.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Railway Police Bureau. Taiwan Railway Administration said that Wu’s train was on track 4, which did not have a platform, and therefore necessitated crossing track 3 to reach it. TRA said that it will review safety procedures for shift changes as a result of the accident.

Thanks, sorry I’ve been absent. Vaccine mandates prevent me from my old way of making a living, so I have to put a lot more hours in on poorly-paid online work, and don’t have much time to keep up with and write news these days.
