Tourism Operators Introduce Combined Orchid Island and Green Island Ferry Route

Tourism operators in Taitung today introduced a new ferry route that will allow travelers to purchase one ticket to visit both Green Island and Orchid Island. Daily services will begin May 1. Up till now visitors who went to either Island had to take a ferry back to Fugang Harbor to board a separate ferry to go to the other island.

An industry spokesperson said the new route offers provides convenience and cost savings for visitors to the islands. A round-trip ticket to Orchid Island costs NTD2300 and a round trip ticket to Green Island is NTD920. With a round trip ticket costing NTD2700, the combined route offers a saving of NTD520.

The ferry has been refitted and will carry a maximum of 154 passengers where previously it carried a maximum 195 passengers. This will allow more space and a greater level of comfort for passengers. The route has been named the Taitung, Orchid Island, Green Island triangular route.

From May 1 until the end of the summer peak tourism season, the ferry will depart daily from Fugang Harbor at 9:00 a.m. heading to Orchid Island (Lanyu). It will depart Orchid Island at 2.30 p.m. for Green Island. At 4.30 p.m. it will depart Green Island, heading back to Fugang Harbor.

The ferry operator said depending that if the new route proves popular enough, the operating season may be extended in the future.
