Taiwan’s Pokemon Go Grandpa upgrades array to 64 phones

A Taiwanese man who made international news headlines two years ago for using 11 phones at a time to play Pokemon Go, has since increased the size of his array to 64 smartphones.

Chen San-yuan was featured in a BBC report August 2018 after being spotted with an array of 11 smartphones mounted to the handlebars of his bicycle. At the time, Chen was planning to add 4 more phones, BBC reported. Chen was 70 years old at the time.

By November that year, Chen had increased his array to 15 phones, according to a Japan Times report.

Chen made the news again in March 2019 when he was spotted with an expanded array of 24 phones: 22 mounted on the handlebars, and two in his pocket. Chen, a Taoist Master of divination and Feng Shui, was interviewed by Agencia EFE at the time.

In February 2019, Taiwan tech giant ASUS had made Chen ambassador of their ZenFone series, according to tech news website Mashable.

In July 2019, Channel News Asia reported that Chen had upgraded to a total of 30 phones.

As of today, June 23, 2020, Chen has increased his array to 64 phones, mounted on a 6-row peacock-tail-shaped stand towering above the handlebars of his bicycle.
