Taiwan’s Newest Airline starts Recruitment Drive for Pilots

Starlux Airlines announced today that it would do its best to cultivate Taiwanese pilots, saying that the company would inculcate safety as an attitude, not just a requirement.

Starlux Chairman Chang Kuo-wei said that anyone with ROC nationality who has a university degree , and English language certification, can apply to become a pilot. Military officers can also apply.

As well as relevant qualifications, applicants should have team spirit, good communications skills, and a sense of mission.

Applications can be made on the airline’s website.

Successful applicants will be sent to the United States at the company’s expense for one year’s training to obtain a commercial pilot’s license, then a further half-year’s training for specific aircraft type.

Starlux has ordered 10 Airbus A321neo aircraft, and plans to start operations by the end of 2019.

Starlux was founded by Chang Kuo-wei after he resigned as President of Evergreen Group, operators of EVA Air. Chang’s father Chang Yun-fa founded Evergreen Group, and had willed that Chung Kuo-wei, his son by his second wife, inherit his position.

However, after Chang Yun-fa passed away in January, 2016, Chang’s half-brothers, who were children of Chang Yun-fa and his first wife, opposed Chang Kuo-wei’s ascension.

Chang decided to resign from Evergreen Group, but continued to pursue his passion for aviation by founding a new airline.

STARLUX Airlines was issued its official business registration certificate by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in May 2018.
