Taiwanese Australian Dumped After Anti-Gay Comments

Australia’s One Nation Party revoked their endorsement of Shan Ju Lin, the party’s first Asian-Australian candidate, after the Taiwan-born candidate made controversial comments about gay people.

Party leader Pauline Hanson dumped the member after Ms Lin posted a comment on her Facebook page saying that gay people engaged in “abnormal sexual behaviour” and “should be treated as patients.” Ms Lin has since allegedly deleted the comments.

One Nation Party officials were unable to contact her through other means, and used Facebook messenger to inform her that the party was “not happy” with her comments. Ms Lin responded that “Once the gays realise they can put pressure on a candidate, they will start to target other One Nation candidates also.”

Pauline Hanson and the One Nation Party came to prominence 20 years ago based on an anti-immigration stance rooted in fear of Australia being “swamped” by Asians. Last month, December 2016 saw Shan Ju Lin endorsed as the One Nation Party state representative for the seat of Bundamba. Ms Lin is believed to be the first ethnically Asian candidate to be endorsed by the party.

Ms lin, in December stated that Pauline Hanson was right to warn about Australia being swamped by Asians 20 years ago. But to Ms Lin, the threat comes from China and the CCP. She said that “good Asians” will vote for One Nation at the next election.

Saturday evening, January 7, party officials removed their endorsement of Ms Lin. Pauline Hanson wrote: “Shan Ju, you have not heeded the warnings of the executive after your suspension less than 24 hours ago regarding ‘gays should be treated as patients’ and have continued to post denigrating remarks and stories to your Facebook page,” she said.

“These are not the views shared by Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, nor the views of your fellow candidates and the general public.”

Ms Lin, a Taiwanese-born school teacher, has lived in Australia since 1990 when she completed her Master’s Degree at QUT (Queensland University of Technology).

Well, once again, the truth gets one in trouble.
