Taiwan Commerce Group Involved in Fatal Bus Accident in Australia

One person was killed and 1 seriously injured after a bus carrying members of World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC), rolled over on Australia’s Great Ocean Road, in the state of Victoria at around 5:15pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (7:15pm, Taipei).

Liberty Times Network reports that the bus was carrying 28 members of the of the WTCC from many different countries. The passengers were on a 3 day tour after finishing a conference of the WTCC in Melbourne.

The Liberty Times Network report states that 14 people were injured, but actual numbers vary considerably according to various media reports on Australian media websites.

Melbourne newspaper The Age reported that the bus, which was towing a trailer, rolled over and left the road at Glenaire, about 3.5 hours west of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road.

The Age reported that the accident followed heavy rains and storms across the state, but didn’t specify if the weather had any connection to the accident.

Two people, including the 38 year old male deceased, and the seriously injured, were trapped for over an hour. Two air ambulances were among the emergency vehicles that attended the scene. The seriously injured woman, said to be suffering from mainly pelvic injuries, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment. Another injured person was taken to Geelong Hospital. Several people with lighter injuries were taken to the closest local hospital at Apollo Bay, 30 kilometers east of the scene of the accident.
