Taichung’s dancing man spotted posing, smoking atop store sign

A man dubbed “Taichung Dancing Brother” in Taiwan’s Chinese language media, was spotted striking poses, and smoking while standing on a convenience store sign today, Friday, December 10.

Taichung City Police Department dispatched three officers from Lide Station after receiving a report, but the 28-year-old man, named Zheng, had already left by the time the officers arrived.

Zheng has become a fixture, not only in Taichung City streets, but in the national press in recent months, as he is regularly spotted striking poses and making dance moves in the middle of the street, regardless of vehicular traffic.

Police have issued 9 fines to Zheng, who is of no fixed abode, and is registered as a “street friend” – a Chinese term used in Taiwan for the homeless. Zheng usually frequents the Yizhong pedestrian mall, and Fengjia business district.

In recent months, Zheng has featured in the news for dancing in various locations, in the middle of the street, or atop transformer boxes on the sidewalk. Sporting a shock of blonde-dyed hair, sometimes tinged with green, in the hot summer months, he often danced shirtless, on occasion stripping down to his underwear.
