Workers and residents in an industrial area in Tainan were on edge yesterday after hearing a series of shots coming from an abandoned factory yard across from the Anping Fish Market. Police investigators found 20 high caliber rounds had been fired into the door of a shipping container. A 6.4 magnitude earthquake centered in Kaohsiung County awoke residents a few minutes before 4AM this morning February 6, 2016. Three people have died and 160 hospitalized at the time of writing, with the number expected to rise as rescue workers penetrate collapsed buildings. Authorities are still working to assess the extent of the damage as the President heads to Tainan, which appears to have taken the brunt of the damage. Several residential buildings housing hundreds of families have collapsed.

A man arguing with his girlfriend pulled the handbrake while they were traveling at over 90 km/h on the freeway south of Tainan City yesterday. A taxi carrying 6 passengers managed to stop before hitting the first car, but was slammed by a truck traveling behind it. Tainan: A man miraculously survived a high speed crash on a freeway today. The truck involved  tipped over, losing it’s load along with the passenger, before righting itself and landing back on its wheels. Tainan: Suspected brake failure caused a 10 ton truck to roll down a freeway exit ramp and across a busy 4 lane road, killing a scooter rider and injuring 3 other other people. The incident was caught on security cameras.
