Suspect arrested after pinhole cameras found in Taipei City toilets
A 46 year-old computer engineer was arrested in Zhonghe District yesterday after pinhole cameras were found in two toilets in Taipei City in recent days.
On Friday, May 3, a man named Wang noticed a suspicious hole in a toilet plunger placed next to a toilet in a convenience store. Mr Wang turned the plunger over and found a pinhole camera installed inside the suction cup.
Police began an investigation and found that the camera had around two hours of footage, and around 10 male and females had been photographed.
By Friday evening, a suspect had been tentatively identified the suspect after his face was shown after turning the camera on, and CCTV footage showed the same man entering and exiting the toilet.
According to Apple Daily, a person who had seen the news reports was hyper-vigilant when using a toilet in a convenience store near Da’an Station on Saturday, May 4, and reported finding a pinhole camera installed in exactly the same manner as the previous day’s incident.
Police arrested a computer engineer named Qiu (邱) outside his residence in Zhonghe District in the early hours of the morning today, May 5. Qiu was found in possession of 50GB of footage involving around 30 victims, according to Apple Daily.
After first attempting to run, Qiu realized the game was up and confessed to police that he had targeted toilets in convenience stores and cafes around Da’an, Technology Building, and Zhongxiao-Fuxing MRT stations.
