Street racer shot in the leg after causing fatal crash and attacking police officers
A man was shot in the leg after attacking police officers attending the scene of a traffic accident in Taipei City early this morning, November 14.
According to Taipei City Police, at around 4:20 am a 22-year-old man, named Lee, was racing with an underaged, 16-year-old driver, named Chiang, on Zhongxiao West Road when Lee’s vehicle clipped the rear of another car as they entered the Zhongshan Road underpass.
The car hit by Lee went out of control and rolled over twice, leaving the 24-year-old driver, named Wang, pinned beneath the vehicle. Wang lost vital signs at the scene of the accident and was later declared dead at the hospital. A 22-year-old woman traveling with Wang suffered minor injuries.
When two police officers attending to the accident approached Lee, Lee began to verbally insult and physically attack them. The officers drew their service pistols, and Lee continued to move aggressively towards one of the officers. The officer fired a warning shot, but Lee persisted, appearing to reach for the officer’s pistol. The second officer then shot Lee in the thigh.
As paramedics performed CPR on the seriously injured Wang, and provided first aid to the injured female, associates of Lee and Chiang gathered at the scene. When reporters arrived, they were pushed and shoved by several men who were part of the group. One man was chased and shoved bodily against the wall of the underpass as police attempted to maintain order at the scene.
A total of six men and one woman were arrested following the accident and its aftermath.
Lee is suspected to have been affected by alcohol at the time of the crash, but the results of blood tests have not yet been released.

Perhaps I shouldn’t write this, but the person that caused the accident should have been the one that perished. For some reason, it is almost always the innocent that suffer from the stupidity of others.
