Riverside basketball court reclosed after players disobey COVID rules
Just days after reopening Tuesday, a basketball court in a New Taipei City riverside park was reclosed today, because players were spotted not wearing masks, and gathering in breach of social distancing rules.
The New Taipei City Water Resources Department announced that the Zhongxing Bridge basketball court in the riverside park in Sanchong District will be closed from today, August 29, until September 13, after people were seen breaching epidemic prevention regulations.
People were seen playing basketball without wearing masks, a Water Resources Department press release said. Other people were seen gathering in groups, and breaching the one meter social distancing rule specified by the Central Epidemic Command Center of the Centers for Disease Control.
In addition to calling the police, the department also decided to close the basketball court for a period of 15 days.
The Water Resources Department said that it had already applied the same measures to an inline skating rink in the riverside park in Hsintien District, starting August 24. The city government closed the inline skating rink for a period of 15 days in accordance with regulations, after people were seen disobeying health authority mandates.
The Water Resources Department warned that after the relevant facilities are re-opened people must cooperate, wear masks, not gather in groups, and register by scanning the QR code on the bulletin board.
The city government has deployed inspectors and park security personnel to conduct inspections and report violations to police.
