Police search for father after two kids found dead in New Taipei City
Police are searching for a man after a 10-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother were found dead in their beds in their father’s apartment in Taishan District, New Taipei City, yesterday.
The children’s mother, 36-year-old Ms Yang, expected her ex-husband, Mr Wu, 40, to bring her daughter home at around 5:00pm, after having spent the weekend with her father and little brother.
When the girl failed to come home, and Wu did not respond to phone calls, Ms Yang called Wu’s father, who lives nearby.
Mr Wu senior entered the Mingzhi Road apartment at around 7:00pm, and found the lifeless bodies of his two grandchildren in their bunk-beds.
A preliminary police forensics investigation suggests that the children may have been suffocated to death.
The police investigation found that Wu rode his scooter to a nearby convenience store at around 9:00am, yesterday, and withdrew NT$20,000 from an ATM.
At around 1:00pm Wu took a taxi to Qian-shui Bay in Sanzhi District. Wu was last seen at around 2:00pm.
An air, sea, and land search is currently being conducted in the area where Wu was last seen, and it is suspected that he may have jumped into the sea.
United Daily News reported that police had not listed Mr Wu as a suspect, as there was no direct evidence that he had been involved in their deaths.
New Taipei City social affairs workers said that the family did not have a history of domestic violence or child abuse.
