Police officer dies after being dragged by fleeing suspect’s vehicle in New Taipei City
A police officer was dragged to his death after attempting to stop a suspect from driving away from a vehicle inspection in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, last night, September 30.
According to reports, Liu Tsong-Hsin, Chief of the Qingshui Police Station, was on a routine patrol when he noticed an illegally parked vehicle on Jincheng Road at around 11:00 pm. Liu approached the car, which was driven by a 30-year-old woman named Chen. Chen was known to police, having past criminal records for drug offences.
When Liu asked Chen to step out of the vehicle, Chen attempted to drive away. Officer Liu grabbed the steering wheel, and apparently became stuck as the vehicle gathered speed. Liu was dragged around 500 meters until the vehicle sideswiped a construction fence, severely injuring the police officer. Liu was left severely injured on the road as the suspect sped away.
Liu lost vital signs at the scene of the accident and was rushed to hospital, but declared dead after CPR efforts failed to revive him. Liu was 38 years old, and the father of two children, aged three and one.
Police investigators traced Chen, and arrested her at an apartment in Tucheng District at around 1:00 am. Chen was found to be in possession of a quantity of amphetamines and the “zombie drug” Etomidate.
