Police officer back on duty after post-vax tug of war with death
A police officer in Tainan City thanked his “police family” for supporting him during a nearly one-month stay in hospital being treated for life- threatening blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine.
Su Yanhui, 52, was back at work as Director of Kunyang Police Station, and expressed his thanks at forum held for Tainan City police yesterday, August 11.
Su was hospitalized June 21 after developing discomfort on the evening of June 20, just six days after being vaccinated. Su went to work as usual June 21 despite his condition, but as it worsened, colleagues sent him to a doctor.
Su was diagnosed as suffering from a subarachnoid hemorrhage in his brain.
The National Police Administration public bulletin service reported at the time that Su had a normal physical condition for police service and had no known history of chronic disease.
As the director had been recently vaccinated, the Health Bureau was notified via the vaccine adverse event reporting system.
Reports at the time of Su’s hospitalization stressed that his condition was not necessarily related to the vaccine, and health authorities said that any relationship to the vaccine was “yet to be clarified.”
