Police Officer Arrested for Selling Pot

A police officer in Taichung City was arrested December 23 after an investigating officer responded to an ad on the Internet, and met with the man to purchase a small quantity of marijuana.

The 22-year-old police officer named Chen, confessed to his crime and told investigators and prosecutors that he had purchased the cannabis online for his own use, but after smoking it once, he felt that he didn’t like the taste, and decided to get rid of the rest by selling it.

Chen put an ad on a foreign Internet forum in English, seeking a buyer for the 6.4 grams of pot.

An officer patrolling the Internet spotted the ad and pretended to be interested in buying the product. The prospective buyer and seller met at around 5:00pm, December 23, in Xitun District, Taichung City.

After being arrested and questioned, Chen was handed over to the District Prosecutor to be charged with possession of a category 2 drug.

On December 25, Chen was dismissed from the police force, after having served for just 2 years. The director of the police station and Chen’s supervisors were also given demerits.
