Passersby help Cops arrest suspects in Banqiao District after officer grabbed in bear hug

One suspect ran, and another attempted to stop a police officer from chasing his friend by putting him in a bear hug, but passersby grabbed the fleeing suspect and held him down in Banqiao District yesterday afternoon, January 30.

An officer named Guo, from the Haishan Police station was on routine patrol when he spotted a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Xianmin Boulevard and Cuimin Street shortly after noon. As Guo approached a vehicle, a man opened the passenger side door and fled.

Guo chased the fleeing suspect, but was in turn chased by the driver of the vehicle, who grabbed the officer in a bear hug in an attempt to give his friend an opportunity to flee.

Four or five bystanders who witnessed the incident were brave enough to surround the fleeing suspect. Video footage from the police officer’s camera shows the suspect resisting capture, and violently shoving a woman away before the men suppress him and push him to the ground.

The two suspects, a 38-year-old man named Wu, and a 40-year-old named Wang were arrested.

Wang, the driver of the car, was found to be in possession of a pipe for smoking amphetamine, while Wu, who had attempted to flee, was found to be wanted for failing to show up to serve a 2-year prison term for fraud.
