Police received a report that shots had been fired at around 2:00am this morning. Investigators found 17 bullet holes in the gate of the residence, and 22 bullet casings at the scene.

Later in the morning, a 27 year-old man named Chen, with no previous criminal record, turned himself in to police at the Dong-gang Police Station, claiming responsibility for the shooting. Chen surrendered an assault rifle, two magazines, and 10 bullets.

Chen claimed that he bears a grudge against the nephew of the homeowner and fired the shots to vent his anger. Chen said that he realized that he could not escape the long arm of the law, and therefore decided to turn himself in.

Just 12 days ago, on November 29, shots were fired at the gate of a private temple (Chen Gong-guang) on Changxin Road in the neighboring Nanzhou Township at around 5:00am. The suspect also handed over an AR-15 assault rifle and a handgun.

Zeng claimed that the shooting was to vent anger about an NT$10,000 debt.
