Minor Traffic Accident leads to Murder Investigation after Corpse found in Car
The driver of a car that crashed into a guardrail on National Highway 6 in Nantou County was arrested today, after police detected the smell of a decomposing body in the car, and found the corpse of a female in the rear luggage compartment.
At around 10:00am this morning, emergency services received a call from the public that a car had crashed into the guardrail in the westbound lane of the highway near the Puli Interchange. Highway police were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
When the driver of the car, a 32 year-old man named Zhuang (莊), saw police arrive, he jumped over the guardrail, and was slightly injured in the 5 meter fall. Zhuang was sent to Puli Christian Hospital.
An examination of the car found the body of a woman who had been dead for around two days.
After Zhuang’s wound’s were dressed at the hospital, he was arrested and taken in for questioning on suspicion of murder.
The Taichung District Prosecutor’s Office conducted an autopsy at around 3:00pm in order to determine the cause of death.
According to media reports, Mr Zhuang, who works in the funeral industry, had had an ongoing relationship with the deceased, a 31 year-old woman named Lee, for five or six years. Two days ago, the couple were in a motel in Taichung City when they had an argument. Zhuang lost his temper and strangled Lee.
It is suspected that Zhuang intended to dispose of Lee’s body when the accident occurred.
