Migrant worker charged with homicide after stabbing former employer

A Vietnamese migrant worker was charged with homicide after a man he stabbed in the back died in hospital in the early hours of this morning, January 5.

According to reports in Liberty Times, and United Daily News, the 43-year-old worker, named Le (黎), went to a Vietnamese restaurant in Neipu Township, Pingtung County yesterday evening, where he ran into his former employer, a 61-year-old factory owner, named Lee (李).

The former employee and employer, who had both been drinking, began to quarrel. Le up a kitchen knife belonging to the restaurant, and stabbed his former boss in the left upper back, then ran and hid in a toilet at the back of the restaurant.

Police responding to reports at around 8:00 pm found Le and the bloody knife in the restaurant’s bathroom.

The stabbing victim was rushed to hospital where surgery was performed on a damaged lung. However, the man succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at around 2:00 am.

After interrogation, Le was sent to the Pingtung District Prosecutor where he was charged with the crime of homicide.
