Vice President Chen Chien-jen welcomed Star Wars fans to the Presidential Palace to celebrate Star Wars Day, today, May the 4th.

In his welcoming speech, Chen, flanked by Darth Vader and Chewbacca, welcomed the fans, and said “Taiwan is a beautiful place. We have abundant natural resources.” He then quoted Master Yoda, saying, “Size matters not.” And added: “Taiwan is bigger than you think.”

Chen concluded his speech with “May the Force be with you!” The audience cheered.

President Tsai Ing-wen, who is known by Taiwan Star Wars fans as “Master Yoda of the Presidential Palace,” was not present at the event, and was visiting GOGORO headquarters in Taoyuan City.

Legislator Zheng Yun-peng posted a picture on Facebook, of Tsai with GOGORO founder and CEO Horace Luke, and wrote, “Master Yoda, on May the 4th, visited Luke Skywalker in Taoyuan City: was this deliberately arranged?”

President Tsai was compared to Yoda after a Time Magazine cover photograph by Adam Ferguson was published in June, 2015.
