Man who robbed four shops gets instant karma when he reports scooter theft

A man who reported the theft of his motorcycle was promptly arrested when a police officer recognized him as a suspect seen on traffic monitor footage during an investigation into four shop robberies in Hsinchu County, yesterday, May 22.

The 30-year-old man, named Luo, threatened storekeepers with a hammer, demanding they hand over their cash at four traditional grocery stores in Hukou and Xinfeng districts late yesterday afternoon.

Escaping on a scooter with a surgical mask covering the license plate, Luo managed to obtain more than NT$3,000 by his evil deeds, but was met with almost instant karma when he had his motorcycle stolen later in the evening.

Luo went to the Xinhu Police Station at around midnight to report the theft of his motorcycle, but was recognized and arrested. Luo changed his tune upon arrest, admitted to the robberies, and said that he had actually come to turn himself in.

Police said that Luo had taken advantage of the fact that traditional grocery stores did not have security cameras, and were mostly attended by elderly shopkeepers.
