Man Surrenders to Police After Firing M15 Assault Rifle

Workers and residents in an industrial area in Tainan were on edge yesterday after hearing a series of shots coming from an abandoned factory yard across from the Anping Fish Market.

Police investigators found 20 high caliber rounds had been fired into the door of a shipping container. The investigators considered it a serious case, and by this morning had identified a suspect after accessing CCTV footage and identifying a vehicle and license plate.

At around 10:00am, the suspect walked into a police station and surrendered the weapon. He claimed that someone had left the M15 assault rifle in his care, and he just wanted to test it out. He took the weapon to the warehouse planning to fire just one round. However, he didn’t know the rifle was in automatic mode and when he pulled the trigger it fired a burst of 20 rounds.

Police said it was lucky nobody was hurt or killed in the incident. The man will be charged with a range of offenses relating to possession and discharging of an illegal weapon.
