Man dies after clinging to hood of car for 8 kilometers before falling

Police are investigating two people on charges of negligent death after a man died from injuries sustained when he fell off the hood of a moving car in Taoyuan City two weeks ago.

At around 11:00pm, February 2, the man named Hsieh, 47, spotted his wife and her lover in a car in Guanyin District.

Hsieh laid down on the hood of a car in an attempt to stop his wife leaving with her lover. Hsieh’s wife, Ms Zhang, and her lover, Mr Pan, sat in the back seat of the car being driven by a man named Tsai.

According to reports in Apple Daily, and United Daily News, as Hsieh implored his wife to come home, Tsai stepped on the gas, leaving Hsieh clinging for his life.

Motorists who saw Hsieh on the bonnet of the moving car sounded their horns and urged the driver to stop, but to no avail.

Tsai drove at high speed for a total of around eight kilometers before Hsieh finally lost his grip and fell onto the road at the intersection of Binhai Road and Zhongshan Road.

Witnesses called 119, and Hsieh was rushed to hospital suffering head injuries. Hsieh clung to life for several days but died on February 6.

After investigating the case, police handed Mr Tsai and Ms Zhang over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office to face charges of negligent death.
