KG-9 Sub-machine Gun Seized in Kaohsiung City

Police confiscated a sub-machine gun after a raid at the residence of a suspect last night. It was the second sub-machine gun seized in the city in consecutive days.

The raid followed a month-long investigation launched after an arrest of a man in August on drugs and guns charges.

Police swooped on the 49 year-old suspect named Liu as he arrived at the residence and got out of his car at around 10:00pm.

A search of the residence uncovered 700 grams of amphetamine, NT$2 million cash, two air guns, a KG-9 sub-machine gun with two magazines, and 16 bullets.

Liu told police that the none of the guns belonged to him. The sub-machine gun was being held as security for a friend who borrowed NT$500,000 to cover a gambling debt, Liu told police. The other guns also belonged to friends.

As for drug trafficking, Liu denied that he was a drug dealer, and told police that the 700 grams of amphetamine crystals were for his own use. As for the cash, it was earned by doing wood art.

Liu was charged with violations of drugs and firearms regulations and handed over to the District Prosecutor.

Police said the KG-9 is worth around NT$600,000 on Taiwan’s illegal weapons black market. On the previous day, a Colt 9mm sub-machine gun was seized in the city.
